DR. MARCIA ORMSBY: One of the most common places where I do surgery on children is in the ear. People whose ear protrudes from their head abnormally has an appearance that is not as flattering as when the ears are in good position. My job of putting the ear back into the proper position is called an otoplasty. It involves a reforming of the ear structure or cartilage and is done, generally, in the operating room with a fairly rapid recovery.
