DR. MARCIA ORMSBY: Anesthesia is a very important part of your operative experience. In my practice here in the office, I do not offer general anesthesia which is a complete sedation of the patient with a breathing machine or ventilator. In my office I offer sedation in which you will be asleep, essentially, but you will be breathing for yourself. And you will have a local block which doesn’t allow you to feel any pain in the area where a surgery is taking place. It is easier if I do general anesthesia for you, but I think it is better for you to have sedation and local anesthesia.

So I choose the technique that is really safer and better for you. In addition, it’s very important not to do too many surgeries at once. That adds to the risk of the procedure and decreases the safety-ness. So I will limit the number of procedures that are done at one sitting. And I will limit the amount of time that you will be spending in the operating room so as to maximize your safety and improve your outcome.
