Typically appearing as purple or red “spiderwebs” on the skin, spider veins are some of the most common skin conditions we face, and they can make us self-conscious about our appearance. The good news is, spider veins can not only be reduced, they can be completely eliminated. Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical treatment that can help you successfully get rid of spider veins.
Please contact our plastic surgeon, Dr. Marcia V. Ormsby, to schedule a consultation for spider vein treatment with sclerotherapy.
What Sclerotherapy Can Do
Often referred to as the “gold standard” for the treatment of spider veins, sclerotherapy can eliminate these common skin conditions and help you feel better about the look of your skin. Characterized by small, thin, non-functional vessels near the skin’s surface, spider veins typically look like a group of veins radiating out from a central point on the skin; thin, separate lines of veins; or small lines resembling branches. Spider veins typically appear in the calves, thighs, and ankles.
Spider veins can be caused by genetics, pregnancy, or prolonged sitting or standing, and it is estimated that about 60 percent of the population will experience the condition at some time in their lives. Sclerotherapy can treat these conditions in a relatively simple series of procedures. Small amounts of the treatment solution will be injected into the veins, which will ultimately cause them to contract and collapse. This technique allows for the spider veins to diminish, and then disappear. It may take multiple treatment sessions to achieve the desired results; however, each session usually lasts less than thirty minutes and is involves little to no downtime.
