Microdermabrasion is performed at our aesthetic center to help our patients achieve a healthy, youthful appearance by removing the outer layer of dry, dead skin cells. The skin is exfoliated using a handheld instrument that sprays small particles of crystals across the skin. The crystals and dead skin layer are then gently removed through mild suction.
The microdermabrasion treatment system can improve a number of skin conditions, including:
- fine lines and wrinkles
- thickened, dry areas of skin caused by sun exposure and the aging process
- uneven pigmentation
- enlarged or clogged pores
- mild acne scars
To achieve the best results with microdermabrasion, a series of about five to 12 treatments over the course of several months is generally recommended. The reason for this is that microdermabrasion not only removes the dead, outer layer of skin, it actually encourages the production of new, healthier skin with larger concentrations of elastin and collagen, both vital components to enhance the complexion.
Microdermabrasion is not only effective, it is also convenient. The treatment typically causes very little pain or discomfort, and each microdermabrasion session generally lasts about 40 minutes. Patients can usually get back to their daily routines immediately after the procedure. The skin will most likely have a red or pink tint for about a day after the treatment, and patients are advised to strictly adhere to the technician’s instructions on taking care of the treated areas after each session.
Microdermabrasion is not recommended for sensitive or reddened skin, rosacea, or those patients who have a predisposition to skin-pigmentation problems.
